Local area

We are situated close to the stunning Jurassic Coastline, and wherever you choose to visit it, this holds a wealth of experiences. From Dancing Ledge over near Studland, the legendary Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove, the lovely old Harbour at Weymouth, The Flete and Chesil Beach around Abbotsbury, Golden Cap at Chideock, the famous Cobb at Lyme Regis and the wonderful fossil hunting. With beautiful coastal walks covering nearly all of these areas, the views, cliffs, rock formations, beaches and coastal farmland all offer an exhilarating experience at many different times of year.

Coming inland Dorset is peppered with pretty rural villages, wonderful thatched cottages, traditional country pubs, hidden churches and narrow lanes taking you through the secluded valleys and over stunning hill tops. The coastal road from Bridport to Abbotsbury, the old Roman road from Eggardon Hill to Powerstock and The Three Horseshoes Pub are really essential for anyone wanting to get the feel of Hardy’s Dorset. The northern tip of the county has the old town of Shaftesbury with Gold Hill (Hovis advert!!) and extensive views on the way along the high road from Blandford.

We are pleased to have teamed up with this great company that will come to you at Dove House and give you on site entertainment. Country Sports Events provide fun and relaxing Clay Pigeon Shooting, Archery and Air Pistol shooting for guests in our extensive grounds at a time to suit.

Cycling

There are many cycle paths in Dorset and you can connect to one (NCN Route 26) from Dove House without going on the roads. If you do not bring your own bikes they can be hired locally.

Weymouth Ebike Hire will deliver bikes out to us with all you need, helmets etc. We can provide a place to put them if you have a few!!

Everything about Dove House was perfect - from attentive, easy, helpful communication during the booking process to waving us goodbye as we (reluctantly ) left. The house itself is totally gorgeous, we stayed over New Year and the house was charmingly dressed with tasteful festive touches throughout. Beyond immacutely clean (and I am really REALLY fussy), incredibly comfortable furnishings, top quality linens - the list goes on and on. The kitchen has ABSOLUTELY everything you could possibly need for your stay and more, the pool is warm and inviting, the log fire roars and there was never any shortage of hot water even with all 12 of us on the go at once! The intelligent thought and attention that has gone into making Dove House a delight to stay in is truly impressive and the professionalism with which it is run is second to none. My advice - book it!

If you want to get away from it all there is no better place to stay than at Swallows Cottage. It is so peaceful, surrounded by woods and farmland for as far as the eye can see. We love Dorset and spend most holidays in this wonderful county and so we've stayed in numerous cottages over the years, never returning to the same place twice. However, this year has changed all that. We have found our little piece of heaven and will definitely return to Swallows. Spotlessly clean, with every need catered for and centrally located so everything that Dorset has to offer is within a 30 minute drive. Considering the serenity of the place you might be surprised that the county town of Dorchester with it's museums and shops is only 5 minutes away.

Another special weekend in the most beautiful house! We are a relatively big family, lots of age ranges (!) yet everyone from the babies to the Great Nan adores it here! Perfect location, stunning views, huge bedrooms all with amazing bathrooms and the biggest kitchen to feed us all in! We love it and look forward to it every year! Thank you for making us feel so welcome.

Just had our 2nd weekend away in this beautiful house! Beautifully & thoughtfully decorated, lovely warm swimming pool, huge well equipped kitchen - we didn't want to leave! Highly recommend if you a looking for a stunning holiday home in a remote & idyllic location. We'll be back next year!
